Things are progressing quite nicely on the GSCL / SANCL front, if I may say so myself. By now the site has some meat to it in terms of posts, and some other leagues (other than the school leagues) are showing interest. We’re having a national competition from 2-3 October. I’ve been organising accomodation for the PTA... »

Deja Dome
Climbed Wellingtons Dome again – wanted to do both “Sexy Lady” and “Older, slower, wiser”, but took too long on “Sexy Lady”. Lead it all the way though. Next time….. This Monday is slightly blue, pale at least, no particular reason. Saw this on “Texts from last night” & it made me feel better : “(208): I... »
The Secret of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” Forward Leaning Move
A short article on Gizmodo on how they managed the forward-leaning maneuver from his “Smooth Criminal” video – read it here. Apparently it’s even patented. Strange world. »
Eat more peanut butter
On a lighter note, since it’s Friday and I don’t want to be down about the other news: “Peanut butter sandwiches could be the secret to beating heart disease, says a study. Snacking on peanuts or peanut butter at least five days a week can nearly halve the risk of a heart attack.” Somebody should have told... »
R.I.P. Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett
Not a particular fan of either, but the news stopped me in my tracks nonetheless. Some big names, and definitely some interesting chapters in history. “Charlie’s Angels actress Farrah Fawcett dies of cancer with her family at her bedside” I think this line from IOL best describes Michael’s life: “Michael Jackson, the child star turned King of... »
Stimulus plan
It is the month of June. A resort town sits next to the shores of a lake. It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. It is tough times, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit. Suddenly, a rich tourist comes to town. He enters the only hotel, lays a $100 bill... »
You are what you eat
I came across a new site today – “What’s on my food”, a project by The Pesticide Action Network, which is an easily searchable database of pesticides on your food. The site and information is US based, but I believe it’s relevant in all other countries where non-organic farming is done. Some snippets from the site: “Atrazine, a... »
Climbing training by Stuart Brown
I was answering a post “Beginner climbing tips…” on Climb.co.za and thought I might as well post the links up here for my own / other’s use (I’ve not done any of the training yet, but will soon) – it’s a brilliant short & simple series of training articles by Stuart Brown, a very capable climber,... »
The one in black please
With the GTS 300 going at R85 950 on the VespaSA site ( I must mention the 35km / l fuel consumption ), I don’t really want to know the price tag of the above model (none on the site – one of those “SQ” jobs). Anyways. I’m sure the one on the left... »
warm, warmer, Wolmer
As posted in my previous article there was a host of bands performing at the Wolmer Events Arena. I’m not 100% sure of the details, but apparently it was “Lizelle” ’s birthday bash, and she wanted to go big. She succeeded. Entrance was free and I understand it was advertised on Tuks FM too – I... »
