donkeyandthecarrot_8961This must be the ultimate slap in the face of any African. We’re the only continent (at least of which I know) who coaxes the leaders to act in some kind of reasonable manner with a massive prize as incentive to do so. Sounds a bit like preschool.

From the DailyMail: “Billed as the largest annually-awarded prize in the world, the Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership consists of $5million (£3.1 million) over 10 years and $200,000 (£123,125) annually for life thereafter.”

Wow. Makes the sweets mom and dad bribed us with sound a little dismal.

But wait, there’s more: “Sir Ketumile Masire, former president of Botswana, said the committee could not select a winner for the prize, which aims to recognise African leadership that will improve the prospects of people in the continent.”

Hmmm. So firstly, the reputation of African leaders is that they are so useless (not breaking news, to be honest) that a huge prize is needed to try and coax some sort of positive result out of them. To add insult to injury, out of 53 countries none were found to be worthy.

What!? You mean Mbekiwith his brilliant AIDS policy did not make the cut?! But surely the great moral compass Jacob Zuma should be on the podium?

Eish! These counter-revolutionary colonialists with their silly ideas - making a country work!? Hauw!
