The weekend that was….

So I thought I’d go see whats happening at what I knew as the “Fly Lounge”on Hans Strydom drive, Pretoria East – turns out it’s been revamped into a “Springbok Bar”, co-owned by Kurt Darren & Pedrie Wannenburg (apparently a rugby player – I know, I know, but I had to look it up - I’m not a supporter ;-P )

Playing there was Adam Tas, who while not bad, certainly did not manage to hold my attention with one cover version after the other. I love the venue, but all the ra-ra-Kurt on the walls, along with the sticky menus and slow service despite the multitude of waiters who swarm you upon entering did not do it for me. I’ll not be back unless someone really good plays there and I happen to hear of it in time.

Saturday – off to Bobbejaans Berg / Mutango Lodge for some climbing. I “discovered” this place a while back, while hunting for places to climb. It was already pretty much fully bolted when I “discovered” it, I merely arranged access with the current land owners & let the climbing community know about it. My 15 minutes I guess, courtesy of the actual developers of the crag keeping relatively quiet about it and me stumbling upon it.

Anyways, I managed to drag myself up “Spider’s way” – a climb I could not finish a year ago. It was fun and definitely inspired me to do the proper red-point, as well as some of the other climbs I’m stuck on at the moment.

On the downside, some schmuck thought it wise to steal hangers from the easy section, some of which I personally replaced out of my own pocket after the “discovery”. Perhaps by pure chance, a project went up in the same section, with the same number of bolts as there are now missing hangers on the other climbs. I’ve made some noise over here, hoping to find out what actually happened. It also saddened me to see the littering, perhaps the place was better off unknown to the masses.

And that’s my link-laden post for this Monday morning.

Cheers
